Berlin Walls

The application of the Berlin-Walls is specially feasible when the lowering of ground water table is not a critical factor. But in case lowering of ground water table outside the excavation pit is to be minimized, other shoring systems would seem better suited, feasible and recommended (such as Secant Pile Walls or Diaphragm Walls).

Installation of the soldier piles (sometimes two back-to-back C-channels are used as a soldier pile) is undertaken by means of rotary drilling to the required level, then installing the reinforcement and concrete of the soldier pile (or the two back-to-back C-channels).

The bulk-excavation process is executed in layers, to allow for the timber installation at the same time during excavation. In some cases one row (or more), of ground anchors is installed then pre-stressed to allow for deeper excavations.
